One Teacher’s Journey - A Reflective Journal
http://www.manzana.co.nz/resources/publications/dianne_gilroy/dianne_gilroy.htmThis case study is set in a Year 6 classroom in the Junior School of Southern Cross Campus, Mangere, Auckland. Southern Cross is a composite decile 1 area school, with an enrollment of approximately 1800 students. The campus is divided into 4 schools; Junior, Middle, Senior and a Kura Kaupapa. The Junior School has a roll of approximately 500 Year 1 to 6 students.
In November 2003 a SMART Board interactive whiteboard was installed into my classroom, 1 of three Year 6 classes. I have over 20 years teaching experience, and was in the process of completing the Graduate Diploma of Education Technology through UNITEC. Part of the diploma involved the carrying out of a research project in a chosen area of ICT. The SMART Board was very much an unknown, emerging technology, so it seemed appropriate to look in depth at the effects this SMART Board would have on teaching and learning in my Year 6 class. http://www.manzana.co.nz/resources/publications/dianne_gilroy/1_Digital_Age.htm

Interactive whiteboards are appearing in an increasing number of schools and colleges. So what are interactive whiteboards, are they worth buying and how do you use them?
This resource is designed to answer those questions, provide a primer for first-time users, offer information if your school is debating whether to buy one and, hopefully, enable teachers to develop their skills using these powerful pieces of new technology.

Bye Bye Blackboard
By Kristen LoschertKing's students enjoy the SMART Board just as much as the Edison students, eagerly writing letters on the giant screen, while an audio program provides the correct pronunciation. When Simonton Elementary School opened last year, the school came equipped with 42 SMART Boards, one for each classroom. (SMART Technologies Inc., which introduced the SMART Board in 1991, also supports a foundation that helps schools acquire the technology. http://www.nea.org/neatoday/0409/technology.html?mode=print

Taking this one step further, the 'digital whiteboard' enables the information that has been written on a whiteboard to be saved to a computer file for later use.
